Are you still using planar or three-dimensional member programs for the structural analysis of simple hall frames?
Do you still define nodes, members and coordinates manually?
If you like, our program Hall Frame EC will relieve you of these work steps in the future.
And: Hall Frame EC also reduces the time required for the structural analysis of a hall frame.
The calculation and dimensioning can be switched between DIN 18800 and EuroCode 3 with a simple mouse click.
Hall Frame EC is a product of the STAHL 2000 series and is available both as a stand-alone program and as part of the Program Packages Hall and Framework.
On clearly arranged tabs, you enter only the required key data of the frame. These include geometric values such as width, height, roof pitch, or load specifications such as snow load zones, height above sea level, or wind load zones - and of course the estimated profiles for columns, rafters, and frame corners.
From here, Hall Frame EC takes over and automatically performs all further steps for you. You will receive finished and, above all, reliable static calculations, including:
support forces
internal forces
and dimensioning
In conventional structural programs, the determination of the structural system is an unavoidable and time-consuming part of the calculation.
This includes: Conversion of the known external dimensions to the system axes, determination of appropriate intermediate nodes at design relevant locations such as the frame corner area, assignment of section values to the system members, and so on.
This is time consuming and error prone. Hall Frame EC does this work for you and makes no mistakes!
All you have to do is
You enter the main dimensions of the frame that are already known, such as the overall width, the frame height, the height to the crane runway console or the roof pitch.
In addition, you only need to select the estimated profiles for the columns, the transom and the frame corner, either as rolled sections or as welded I-sections.
From these values, Hall Frame EC automatically generates the structural system for the analysis, including all node and member definitions, the columns, and the assignment of appropriate section values.
It couldn't be easier or faster!
Hall Frame EC provides all load cases and load case combinations
As with the structural system, the generation of load cases for the hall frame calculation is mostly automated.
You only have to enter a few things:
Select the dead load of the roof construction, the snow load zone, the height above sea level and the wind zone - done!
From this information, the program automatically generates all the required individual load cases as well as the load case combinations for the calculation according to the 2nd order theory.
In case of a hall with a crane runway girder, the support forces of the crane runway can be taken from the Crane Girder EC software. After selecting the corresponding item number, a list of possible support force combinations appears.
You can also select individual load cases or all load cases.
With Hall Frame EC, you can also create specific checks on request, such as the "North German Plain" check or an earthquake check.
The structural analysis of Hall Frame EC is comprehensive.
It ranges from the determination of the individual load cases to the stability analysis of the frame.
In the first step, the individual load cases such as dead load, snow, wind from the left, crane Pmax left are calculated according to the first-order theory with output of the support forces, internal forces, deformations and maximum stresses.
In the second step, all relevant load combinations are automatically calculated according to the 2nd order theory, also with output of the
Support forces
Internal forces
Deformations
and maximum stress values.
For the load combinations, stability checks are also performed for the columns and the beams.
For cross-frame members, different variants of torsional elastic supports can be considered, e.g. by trapezoidal plates, bracings or purlins.
All necessary auxiliary values such as safety coefficients, reduction factors, shear stiffness values, etc. are automatically determined and included in the calculations!
Data transfer
Hall Frame EC is able to import and process data from Crane Girder EC.
This allows you to automatically calculate a complete crane runway and then load the calculated load combinations into Hall Frame EC, where they can be used for the calculation of the hall frame.
Last but not least:
With Hall Frame EC, you have a tool for the automatic calculation of symmetrical two-hinged hall frames.
Unfortunately, in many cases a gabled hall frame is available as a basic element, but it is either asymmetrical, has a canopy or an extension.
The STAHL 2000 software also offers a solution for such cases!
You can calculate the hall frame as a basic element and then import the structural analysis - including the automatically generated load cases - into the 2D Framework EC software. From there you can:
Change dimensions
Add members and loads
Recalculate the modified system.
The standard output system of STAHL 2000 is used to output the results.
You can preview the output on the screen, display graphics (system, influence lines) and output to a printer, PDF or Word document.

With Mathcad you can easily create a calculation document with text, images and formulas. Similar to a text editor, but the formulas are automatically mathematically exact and the formula content is not just text, but variable values.
In our opinion, Mathcad is one of the most underrated programs and should not be missing in any engineering office!
